FAQs

What is Cognitive Wellbeing Hypnotherapy? I developed my unique method of helping clients overcome anxiety forever by combining Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Meditation into one highly effective approach, Cognitive Wellbeing Hypnotherapy.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an approach to solving problems which aims to change the patterns of thinking or behaviour that are behind our anxieties. By changing these thoughts and behaviours we can also change the way we feel and therefore how we react to challenges in our lives.

Hypnosis can be best be described as a technique where I guide you into a state of mind where your focus and concentration is heightened. This is called the “hypnotic state,” and it’s similar to daydreaming, or that feeling of losing track of time you get when driving a familiar journey (which is called “highway hypnosis”).

Under hypnosis you remain conscious and in control, though you’ll be relaxed and highly focused. This allows you to tune out stimuli around you and reach a heightened state of awareness. In this state, your mind is highly responsive to suggestions and new ways of thinking. And that’s why hypnosis is so powerful.

Why combine CBT and Hypnosis?  Simply because hypnosis makes CBT more effective:

  • Hypnosis facilitates deep relaxation and enables you to feel ready to make changes.
  • Hypnosis helps you safely dissociate (being able to view ourselves from a “distance”) so it can be easier for you to deal with challenging thoughts, feelings and memories.
  • Hypnosis enhances the vividness of mental imagery, thus enabling you to use your imagination to prepare for change and to practice new skills.

I’ve had CBT before on the NHS and it didn’t work for me, why will it be different this time? The CBT approach that I take is not like the CBT available on the NHS. When you are dealing with 10s of 1000s of people, it’s understandable that the CBT available on the NHS is pretty much “one size fits all”. I tailor every single aspect of therapy to each client’s individual needs, concerns and issues. CBT is hugely effective when it’s adapted to each person’s requirements.

What conditions and problems can you help me with?  I use Cognitive Wellbeing Hypnotherapy to help people overcome the symptoms of anxiety and stress and find calmness and contentment. I also work with clients to build their confidence and self-esteem. Click here for a more comprehensive list of what I can help you with.

What don’t you do?

  • Offer immediate, instant solutions or short-term fixes.
  • Use any therapy technique that has not got robust, empirical evidence to support its effectiveness.
  • Make unreasonable promises or guarantee a cure.
  • Profess to be an expert at curing every and any known issue, because there are treatments that are better than Cognitive Wellbeing Hypnotherapy for some conditions.
  • Offer past life regression as there is no scientific evidence that this is possible

How many sessions will I need? That depends on many factors, though clients usually have between four and six sessions to reach their goal.

How much does a session cost?  You can view my full range of prices and packages here.

You also offer EMDR, what’s that for? Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a very specialised therapy to developed help clients who suffer from intrusive thoughts and disturbing emotions resulting from past traumatic experiences.
