Melissa Spilsted is the\u00a0director and founder of Hypnobirthing Australia\u2122. She is recognised as\u00a0Australia\u2019s leading expert in hypnobirthing nationwide and internationally.\u00a0She teaches childbirth educators, caregivers and parents throughout Australia and\u00a0the world.<\/p>

Melissa Spilsted is very well known for her childbirth hypnosis albums (available through this\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0or iTunes) \u2013 the most popular being \u2018Surge of the Sea\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>

She is a passionate advocate for natural birthing<\/a>; but also recognises that sometimes the safest delivery for mother and baby is via c-section. In addition to being one of Australia\u2019s most popular and recognised hypnobirthing instructors, she has pioneered a special course to prepare parents for caesarean birth<\/a> which is receiving national and international acclaim.<\/p>

She brings to her hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing classrooms 25 years of training experience and professional qualifications. This is what she says\u2026<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWhen pregnant with my first child, I must admit that I was quite fearful of the perceived \u2018pain\u2019 associated with labour and childbirth \u2013 everyone I met seemed to have a horror story to tell. When my husband and I attended antenatal classes they passed an epidural needle around the group \u2013 it was HUGE. I then read up on the different drugs offered during labour and was horrified to learn of the documented side effects for both mother and baby \u2013 not to mention the unknown ones.<\/em><\/p>

I decided that there had to be another way. Women had been giving birth since the beginning of time \u2013 our bodies are so remarkably complex and well designed \u2013 I found it hard to believe that the childbirth process was so flawed! I recognised the power of the mind-body connection and wished to utilise that for my birthing. That is when I discovered Hypnobirthing.<\/em><\/p>

I was a bit sceptical at first, but thought I would give it a go. With only three weeks to go before my due date, my husband and I learnt hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing techniques for birthing. Thank goodness we did! I did really embrace a hypnobirthing philosophy, but I found the practice cds (in another accent) to be sometimes difficult to listen to \u2013 so I made my own recordings and incorporated some of my own conditioning\/breathing techniques into my daily preparation. My births were beautiful, smooth and calm and I attribute this to the knowledge that my husband and I had acquired about the birthing process, hypnobirthing techniques learnt, support from my birth partner and my own program of \u2018conditioning\u2019.<\/em><\/p>

I believe so strongly in the positive outcomes of using hypnobirthing that I now completely focus my hypnotherapy and teaching practice on sharing these techniques with parents<\/a> and training new Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioners<\/a>. I am very proud to know that I have made a positive difference to many family\u2019s lives through education and the sharing of this these techniques.<\/em><\/p>

It\u2019s time for women to become empowered and elated by the birth process once again, and this is absolutely possible with hypnobirthing. My dream is that all babies have the opportunity to enter this world in a beautiful, calm and positive environment \u2013 the way nature intended.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>
